Manatū
We stand strong in our own uniqueness.

This House has been formed through combining Mansfield and Ngata. The values of these former Houses have been retained as requested by staff. As part of the process to create a name that was relevant as per the values and is a name that would be simple to pronounce, I also consulted with people from the hapū and iwi of Te Whakatōhea, Māori Language experts and Board members.

Creativity and Passion were the values of Mansfield. Social Justice and Equity were the values of Ngata. Each of these values has a Māori term or word that is common to each value when translated and that is the word “MANA”. Combining the word MANA with the word TŪ has the effect of enhancing the values through inspiring people to stand strong and celebrate their uniqueness. that was relevant as per the values and is a name that would be simple to pronounce, I also consulted with people from the hapū and iwi of Te Whakatōhea, Māori Language experts and Board members.
