Sports

At Ōpōtiki College we believe sport is an important component in the overall development of our students. We aim to provide a range of quality sporting opportunities and activities (at local, regional and national sporting events) to ensure that we:

  • Promote sporting teams and events as an important part of school life.
  • Foster and develop sporting talents and abilities within and beyond the school.
  • Provide positive role models and encouragement at school through student and staff involvement.
  • Recognise team and individual efforts and cooperation.
  • Develop individual responsibility, team work and self-discipline.
  • Demonstrate commitment, initiative, loyalty, sportsmanship and pride through involvement with sports teams.
  • Provide opportunities to participate and compete in sports events at local, regional and national levels.

Ōpōtiki College is committed to the Fair Play Charter Sports Charter of New Zealand. Sports is coordinated at the College by the Sports Coordinator and and Director of Sport.

Each year we will offer a number of codes at the college. This will be dependent on player interest and the availability of coaches, managers and suitable tournaments/competitions to enter the teams in. Some codes/team may have the opportunity to enter National competitions. This is to be approved by the Board of Trustees prior to entry.
