Do I need Touch experience to take part? No. Touch is open to players of all experience levels. Choose the Social division if you are new to Touch or want a more relaxed competition. Choose the Competitive division if you have previous playing experience and want a higher level of competition.

Can I register without a team? Yes. Register as an individual and we will place you into a suitable team based on your selected category and division.

How long are the matches? Matches will consist of two 15-minute halves. Depending on the final number of teams, we will aim to give each team approximately four matches during the tournament.

Will referees be provided? Yes. Referees will be provided for all matches. Teams do not need to supply their own referee.

What happens if the weather is bad? Touch will generally continue in wet weather. If severe weather or unsafe field conditions may affect the competition, a decision will be made approximately 24 hours before the scheduled start. Any changes will be communicated directly to registered participants.

Matches will follow Touch Rugby New Zealand rules, except where Rainbow Games advises otherwise. Any tournament-specific rules or variations will be shared with teams before the competition.

What footwear can I wear?

• Players may wear any suitable sports footwear.
• Plastic moulded boots or blades are recommended. Metal sprigs are permitted, but we recommend avoiding them where possible.

Do teams need uniforms?

• Matching team uniforms are recommended but are not required.
• Bibs will be provided where teams do not have matching uniforms or where the teams’ colours are too similar.

What should I wear and bring?

• Suitable sports clothing
• Appropriate footwear
• A water bottle
• Sunscreen
• Any personal strapping or protective equipment they require

What will the competition format be?

• The final format will depend on the number of registered teams. The competition may include round-robin pools followed by knockout or placing matches.
• The tournament draw and final schedule will be released approximately two weeks before the Games. This will include notification about composite teams if you have registered as an individual.
• Team contacts will also receive the final rules, arrival instructions and other competition information.

How many players per team? 

• Teams are made up of 6 players on the field, plus up to 4 substitutes. 
• You’ll need a minimum of 6 players to play, but we recommend having a couple of extras for rotation and rest. 

What level is the competition? 

This is an inclusive, social competition. We welcome players of all skill levels, and the emphasis is on fun, connection, and community.
