According to the weather forecast it wasn't meant to be windy or snow, but thankfully the snow came and went but the wind came and stayed for most of the day.   Teams weren't fazed by the weather and Daniel our official starter for the 3rd year sounded the horn at 8am and 35 teams headed off in various directions.  Having chosen the order in which they were going to get round the course,  14 teams headed out on foot over Bog Roy , 11 teams rode up and over Rostriever (MTB1) and 10 teams braved the first freezing cold river crossing to bike over Otamatapaio (MTB2).   HQ/transition at the Bog Roy woolshed meant teams did not need a support crew which is always a bonus.

25 teams completed all/part of all three sections; nine teams two sections and one team just the trek.   Seven teams opted to do the trek and MTB2 and two teams opted to do the trek and MTB1.  Of all the teams covering both the foot and MTB1 sections, it meant they had to tackle going up again!   Some teams were hoping to kill two birds with one stone and head out and up only the once on bike, do that section then go on foot to get the trek controls.....no, no, no! cruel I know but it all added to the adventure and there is always a guaranteed hill or two on our annual event as many returning teams will agree.  Score cards were checked each time teams arrived into transition just to make sure no one took a sneaky detour to a control on a section other than the one they were on, just to be sure!

Last year's 12 hour event saw some teams finishing the course with hours to spare so this year we remedied this by putting a few more controls further afield.   And it seemed to work....two teams got all controls  - Sneaky Weasel Gang, 1st Male and 1st overall, took out the honors in 11hrs 15minutes with The Greenhorns, 1st Mixed and 2nd overall in 11hrs 41 minutes.

Direction of travel over the trek section varied from team to team with one team going for a quick dip in the lake!   Their route choice made it very slow going for them and they finished this section in 7hr 55 minutes.

Overall the day turned out to be awesome, went smoothly with no major dramas and all teams bar 1 had finished by 8pm - Charismatic Megafauna came running in finishing in 12hrs 2 minutes.

Great food was dished up thanks to the PTA of Omarama School.

Massive thanks to Gundy and Lisa who were awesome in allowing us to hold our annual event there.  I am sure all teams will agree that Bog Roy is a fantastic area to explore.   In addition, thanks to Sam and Penny from Otamatapaio and Ian and John from Rostriever.

Thanks again to all our sponsors, everyone loves a spot prize.

So from me, Col, Gary, Bill and Helen….well done on your exploits and keep up that training for next year’s 12hr as I am sure there will be another hill or two to conquer.   Don’t forget to like our SCARC FB page as there could be a chance for you to score a free entry or two for next year’s event, just like Sam from Tussock Jumpers did this year J
