Another awesome event done and dusted and what a great day it turned out to be ....27 teams geared up for another gruelling day in the wopwops and we are stoked that so many teams returned this year. I am sure all teams will agree that Glenmore Station was a fabulous location for this years event, it has everything you could wish for..... outstanding vistas, magnificent climbs and fab descents, what more could you ask for...flat is so boring I'm sure most of you would agree, athough half way up that hill I'm sure there would have been some choice words being mumbled along the way...
The day started pretty overcast followed by drizzle but then the sun came out and then slip, slop, slap, the sunlotion went on, clothes came off and onwards, or upwards should I say, teams soldiered on, and that was it for the rest of the day....glorious weather (honestly, I knew it would be)...although I forgot my sunlotion and am like a lobster today.
Not one team had a frown on their face when they came into transition which is proof enough that the course/venue we set this year was really enjoyable, may have trouble topping this for next year. The venue each year just gets better and better and to visit places the general public are not granted access to is priceless and that is the reason, we are sure, why teams return year on year.
As expected the first mixed team, Sneaky Weasel Gang finished in 8hrs 10 followed by Learning to Fly in 9hrs 15.
Haast Eagles 1st male team finished in 9hrs 54 with Relentless Forward Momentum 2nd in 10hrs.
A slight change to the announced womens team, Yes to Adventure finished in 10hrs 49 with Godzone a very close second in 10hrs 52. Both teams got 11CPs. Apologies for the mix up, must wear my glasses next time......
13 teams chose to do the bike leg first and the remaining teams opted for the run section.
Nine teams decided not to bike to Waterfall Hut.
One team didn't go to the checkpoint at X1 which was given as either a bike or run option, 10 teams tramped and 16 teams biked.
Thanks to team Him&Me&Him for taking along a stray on the trek section who had lost his team due to injury, much appreciated by Shane :)
Anyone wishing to visit Waterfall Hut and stay the night should contact Em and Will at Glenmore Station. You cannot just go on up, you must get permission first.
Finally, thanks heaps to the amazing sponsors this year, most of who have been kind enough to help out with a prize for 5 years now and I know that everyone loves a spot prize....a nice finish to a great day.
See you all next year, Shazdog and her amazing team.....Col and Gary :))
And thanks to Daniel, our official starter for the 2nd year....
