PRIMARY COMPETITION 2024: YEAR 7/8

For the 2024 Primary Competition we are going to be starting back up in Term 2 with a twelve week format. The first four weeks of the competition will be grading games, followed by six weeks of a round robin, and a final two weeks of playoffs. Please register for the grade you believe your team may be most likely suited to, but also after the grading games teams will be moved around respective to their results.

Entries are open to Primary School teams, however we would also like to be able to place individual players into teams if a school is unable to enter a team.  If you have a player or players who wish to play but do not have a team please contact me directly on [email protected]

Registrations: Cosed - contact [email protected] for more information.

Start Date: May 20th

Time: Mondays 3:30pm - 7:00pm (or beyond if needed)

Location: Selwyn Sports Centre, Broadlands Drive, Rolleston

Cost:  $480 (including GST)

Competition Format & Rules of Note (5v5):

  • ALL PLAYERS MUST WEAR MOUTHGUARDS
  • A twelve week competition running over Terms 2 & 3.
  • Games will consist of two 13 minute halves (running clock), starting on the hour or half hour.
  • Size 6 basketballs are used.
  • Four fouls per player, per game - promotes non-physical play and ultimately leads to better defence.
  • Team Fouls – teams will get the option for two Free Throws on the fifth Team Foul each half (they can opt for an inbound pass instead if they desire)
  • Each team is to wear a consistent uniform, preferably numbered (we can supply some bibs)
  • ** Development Division only - On a change of possession teams must retreat back behind their half before they can move forward to guard the ball. The whole team needs to be behind the half way line before any of their players can move forward. (If their is a Division 1 game that is lopsided we will also institute this rule during the game)

We follow all the basic rules of basketball, however this is about the players learning and development, so some allowances may be made, dependent on player and team ability.

All games will have 2 junior referees provided.  Referees are a vital part of our game and we will be working with junior referees and training them during these games. We appreciate your understanding that no referee will get it right all the time and that all our referees will be working hard to improve their skills every week.  There will be a Senior Court Controller at the venue if you have any concerns or queries.
