Assessment and Reporting
At Taradale Intermediate we want parents, caregivers and whānau to feel well informed about their child’s learning. From 2026, you may notice some changes in the way we assess and report progress, especially in reading, writing and maths. These changes are designed to make reporting clearer, more consistent, and easier to understand.
You may see some new language in school reports, including progress descriptors and information about how your child is progressing and what their next learning steps are.
We know that any change can take a little getting used to, so we will keep sharing information with you along the way. For more information, please visit the Parent Portal, read the Guide to your child’s reporting and progress, and talk with your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
Term 1: you will notice an effort and engagement post in HERO for your child in reading, writing, oral language, maths and statistics.
Term 2: reports will be online on HERO at the end of Term 2. We are just awaiting HERO to provide the new reporting format for us.
Goal Setting Hui
We will be holding Goal Setting Hui at the end of term 2. At this time teachers will be able to explain the new reporting descriptors that are being used from 2026 onwards.
We will focus on setting goals in reading. writing and maths.
MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDING MEMBER
As you may know, in New Zealand, a school Board is responsible for overseeing the educational achievement of all ākonga. The TIS Board is provided with mid-year achievement data and again early in the following year, the previous year's end of year achievement data to keep us up-to-date on this aspect. The achievement data is always fascinating to read and digest, however it is very number heavy so takes some brain power! Helpfully, our leadership team have created (with the help of AI) podcasts for the Board to more easily digest this information. We thought you, our whānau and community, may also be interested in this. Helpfully, it offers a simple explanation of the new achievement terms.
2026 Mid Year Data
Overall, there's lots of positivity with great achievement in math and reading for most.
