Overview

Hockey is delivered by Wakatipu High School in conjunction with the Wakatipu Hockey Club. Competitive mixed teams are entered into the Central Otago Hockey League based in Cromwell. More social opportunities are available to students with the new turf at the Event Centre providing social 6's offerings during the winter and spring months. 

There are three different hockey pathways available at WHS; Performance, Development, and Participation. Details on these pathways are set out in the 2023 Hockey Programme and on the drop-downs below.

Teams

  • 1st XI Mixed

  • 2nd XI Mixed

  • Development Mixed 

  • Teams are mixed with a minimum of 4 boys and 4 girls on the turf at all times.

Season Details

Training begins midway through Term 1 on Tuesday afternoons/evenings.

Competition begins in Term 2 and runs through to early Term 3.

Games are played in Cromwell on Thursday (Mixed B and Development) or Friday (Mixed A) evenings.

Social 6-a-side hockey runs in Term 2 and Term 4.

Recent Achievement

  • 2024: Abby Fookes & Katie Battrick represented the U18 Girls Central Otago Team.
  • 2024: Alex Campbell & Samuel Robertson-Muir represented the U18 Boys Central Otago Team.
  • 2019: Oliver Battrick represented the U15 Boys Central Otago team.
  • 2018: WHS Mixed Hockey team won the South Island Secondary School Championships.
