WAVERLEY SWIMMING CLUB - Founded in 1960
In 1960 - Superintendent Fred Taylor - who became Waverley's first patron - wished his family could belong to a swimming club. There were few clubs locally, and even then there were such things as waiting lists and they were long.
On the 13th October 1960, Fred convened a meeting with several others at the police station... the outcome of this meeting - Invercargill had a new swim club - Waverley Swimming Club.
Waverley's first ever swim meet - The Waverley Carnival - in 1962.
