Newsletter 28 September - Spring Camp, Invoices, Not Sink, Swim

Novice Swim Test - Not Sink, Swim: Saturday 10am @ Star BC

Tomorrow morning Dr Felicity Smith is kindly running the swim test again this year which is a compulsory health and safety test for rowers. The boys will have to complete their minimum swimming distance in the harbour as a prerequisite for competing over the season.

Values Session: Sunday 10am @ Star BC

We are looking forward to seeing all rowers, coxswains, coaches and committee members on Sunday at the Boatshed for the Values session. David Cournane and Jack Coles from the school will be presenting the COLL values and facilitating a session on what they may mean in practice for the boys. This is great opportunity to align the school, how the Club operates and the expectations of the boys ahead of a busy season.

Spring Camp: First Week of the Holidays

Next week the season really gets underway with our first camp with the 2018/19 squad. Here is all the information you will need.

behaviour – a message from President Sophie Haslem

Spring Camp is a great opportunity for the young men of WCRC to improve their rowing skills, build fitness and bond together as a team. Being part of our Club is a great privilege, representing your school and your families. We take the reputation of WCRC very seriously both on and off the water. Anyone not behaving up to the required standard for a Club member will have his parent contacted to collect him and in the most serious instances be asked to leave the Club.

We want everyone to make the most of the time away together, training hard, having fun but acting responsibly and safely. Let’s make this season a great one for WCRC.

details

The Camp will run from Wednesday 3 - Sunday 7 October (week 1 of the school holidays) at Whanganui River Top 10 Holiday Park, 460 Somme Parade - on the banks of the Whanganui River (can all rowers bring their lunch on Wednesday as it won’t be provided on this first day).

attendance

The expectation is that all rowers attend this camp. Please let Sean know ASAP if you aren’t going to be attending (and haven’t already told us). The Year 11 and 12s (i.e. U18/U17/3rd Yr U16) are due at 10am and Yr 9 and 10’s (U 15/ 2nd Yr U16’s) 1pm at Camp on Wednesday 4 October.  Boys will leave Whanganui at around 1pm on Sunday 7 October, however this will be confirmed on Team App towards the end of camp.

transport

This is the responsibility of individual families and we also need you to let us know how your son is getting to and from Whanganui as this is a requirement of the school. This year you will need to complete the transport list advising each rowers’ arrangements using the link - here

You can also use this form to see who has spare seats available and who needs a ride to make it easier to car-pool. If you are taking a mix of novice/junior and senior rowers can you please indicate what time you will be arriving on the form.

We also need coach boat towers, and someone to tow the food trailer one way. Please indicate this on the Transport list too. In time (but it will be unlikely to be confirmed before Spring Camp sorry) – we will be able to supply you a full contact list to make it easier to arrange rides between yourselves. Unfortunately, the committee isn’t able to organise your transport for you.

what to bring

The gear list is here. Please can all families bring a container of baking. If you don’t have time to bake, please send a loaf of New World Banana Bread. We prefer not to serve store-bought biscuits and slices to ensure we are providing appropriate food for the boys to be rowing on, thanks.

Check Check Check

A Huawei phone was inadvertently put in the side pocket of a black sports/duffle bag not belonging to the phone owner. Can everyone PLEASE check all pockets of their sports bags to see if the missing phone is there and contact Sean ASAP to let him know if you have it.
