Training Camps
Wellington College Rowing Club has two main training camps based in Whanganui:
- Spring Camp takes place during the first week of the term 3 holidays.
- Summer Camp takes place in January during the Christmas holidays.
There are also weekend training camps as follows:
- Ruamahanga river over Labour weekend.
- Whanganui river over Waitangi weekend.
Coaches may also run ad hoc weekend training sessions on the Ruamahanga river or day trips on the Manawatu river, depending on weather conditions and squad availability.
Spring Camp - first week of the term 3 holiday
Accommodation: Whanganui River Top 10 Holiday Park, 460 Somme Parade on the banks of the Whanganui River.

Labour Weekend Camp
Accomodation: Kahutara School, 990 Kahutara Road, RD 1, Featherston.
Ruamahanga River, 737 East West Access Road, Western Lake, Wairarapa. (This is the drop-off point for Saturday and pick up point for Sunday).

Central RPC Development Camps
- The Central Rowing Performance Centre (RPC) is part of Rowing New Zealand’s High Performance Programme which is about helping talented young rowers from school and club teams become elite athletes rowing for their country. Central Rowing Performance Centre website, click here.
- The Central Region covers Taranaki, Wanganui, Wellington, Marlborough and Nelson.
- The Central RPC holds development camps in Blenheim over 3 weekends during the off-season (May, July and September).
- Parents and rowers should talk with their coach about the value of attending these camps.
What the boys need for camp:
Please ensure all items are labelled.
- Sleeping bag and pillow – no airbed needed
- Plastic bags for wet gear
- Clearly named plate, bowl and cup with a handle
- Jandals
- Running shoes
- Poly prop leggings and tops
- Training t-shirts
- Shorts
- Trackpants
- Togs and beach towel
- Sunblock
- Beanie
- Sunhat
- Towels
- Warm socks
- Non stretchy tape for blisters (big rolls from chemist $13-$15) - refer Blister Management
- 2-3 Named drink bottles
- Spanner (10 mm)
- Separate warm casual clothing for after training and evenings
- Woollen jersey/fleece
- Money for transport, food stops (lunch not provided on the first day)
- Healthy Snack food eg muesli bars, up and go, nuts, creamed rice. The closest shop is 2km away and the boys do not have access to the supermarkets.
