In 2019, Team 1 was a new team. The only players from last season are Leasha Rosson (Alyssa), Lakyn Irving, Shaya Smith and Kendra Smith.  Shaya Smith and Kendra Smith both received knee injuries and were unable to play for a while.  Shaya played but not full games.  Nifo ILI covered for the team due to the injuries.  We were very priveledged to have Jana Havler come on board, but only part way through the season.  This young lady is very strong in the Centre position as she plays indoor netball.

Team 1 started off slow winning games with a 1 point difference, drawing and sometimes a loss.  However in the last round of the competition in the Wairarapa Premier 3 grade, we managed to gel.  We won against the teams we lost and drew against.  In the semi finals we played Kuranui College who had beaten us in the very first game.  However, when playing in the top 4 we beat Kuranui with a considerable margin 35-22, which showed we were quite capable of beating this young team.  We played smarter and slowed the game down, young players tend to play the fast game.  Due to experience in this team, we beat Kuranui College in the Top 4 play off and the semi finals.

In the finals on Saturday, 31st August 2019 we played Lansdowne All Sorts and the game was played in great spirits and sportsmanship.  The game was won by Featherston Team 1 with 28-23, the young duo in the shooting circle of Stacey Te Kira and Lakyn Irving worked  well together.  Our defence Clare Ulberg and Alyssa Rosson, plus our amazing Joanna Wong Pown got plenty of tips, intercepts and rebounds.  Clare Ulberg and Alyssa Rosson managed to get lots of rebounds with both talented players showing fantastic elevation.

The mid court consists of Alyssa Rosson, Joanna Wong Pown, Kendra Smith, Jana Havler and Lakyn irving, they all worked well together and midcourt had excellent flowed.  Jana Havler with her quick reflexes got a huge number of tips and intercepts.  Everyone played and contributed to this game and the win was well deserved.  Congratulations ladies, you are superstars.

The Prize Giving gave Featherston Supervalue Team 1 the Premier 3 Netball Wairarapa Championship award and a brand new Silver Ferns ball.

Thank you to Netball Wairarapa, our sponsors and all our supporters for 2019.  We appreciate you all and we hope you will continue the support going forward.
