WELCOME to the WAIROA ATHLETICS CLUB.Wairoa was fortunate to have a Wairoa Amateur Athletics and Cycling Club back in the 1950s,60s and 70s but that came to a end in the early 1980s, since then there has been no Athletics weekly in Wairoa,so a group of parents have come forward to make it possible for children and adults to compete in the sport of Athletics in Wairoa.

The WAIROA ATHLETICS CLUB restarted again in 2012 when alot of families were very keen to get Athletics going again in Wairoa.We had a Wairoa Family then another Whanau that were travelling to Gisborne weekly for the love of Athletics.So we got together and approached the local college to use their facilities,they were very helpful and said yes,We were able to get a little bit of  funding together to get us some equipment to get started shot puts,discus,stop watches and relay batons.This worked well and we had around 100 children that  turned  up during that season.In 2013 we affliated with Athletics New Zealand and had children that represented Wairoa at the 2014 Colgate Games.Our colours are Emerald Green and White and in our first season at the Colgate Games 2 of our athletes recieved 5 medals.

WAIROA ATHLETICS is a friendly family orientated group which is organised by a great team of volunteers. We have Our meets are every THURSDAY evening over the summer months, and are fortunate to have an "athlete friendly grass track"situated at the Lambton Square Sports Park. 

WAIROA ATHLETICS offers a wide range of athletic disciplines which include: Sprinting, middle-distance running, hurdles, long jump, high jump, triple jump, discus, shot put, javelin and so much more.The next meet Night is this THURSDAYMinis    (3yrs - 6yrs) 5.30pm - 6.30pmJuniors    (7yrs, 8yrs, 9yrs)   5.30pm - 7.00pmSeniors    (10yrs - 14yrs)   5.30pm - 7.00pm  To ensure we provide a quality experience for all of our athletes PARENT HELP is REQUIRED at every event. 

WAIROA ATHLETICS provides athletic activities to its participants over the summer months, starting at the beginning of October and finishing at end of March. We do have a short break from meet Nights over the Christmas/New Year period, this allows us to prepare our athletes for the annualColgate Games held every January.  

WAIROA ATHLETICS endeavours to help all of our participants to enjoy athletic activities, whether this involves regular competitive involvement, social participation, or as a way to increase personal fitness levels.So join the rush and come along to support, fantastic family fun and fitness for life!!!Being involved with 

WAIROA ATHLETICS not only assists our participants to become better athletes, but also improves their ability in other sports; by helping them run faster, jump higher and throw further.Athletics is a foundation sport involving running, jumping, throwing and walking. These core skills are integrated into all aspects of athletics coaching and competing. 

WAIROA ATHLETICS role as the local Sporting Organisation for athletics is to help Wairoa people enjoy athletic activities whether this involves regular competitive involvement, casual participation or occasional exercise.
