Colin Cameron
Kart Number: 107
Hometown: Christchurch
Engine/Chassis: Aluminos/Rotax Max
The Cameron name has been synonymous with Canterbury Speedway for over 50 years. It was racing patriarch Don that made a name for himself and the iconic #107 in the formative years of Templeton Speedway (now Ruapuna), and later became a fixture at Woodford Glen. Colin himself would get the bug at a young age, first within the Modified Sportsman ranks followed by stints in Saloons, Streetstocks and Ministocks. But it would be Stockcars where the second generation racer excelled. Amongst Cameron's long list of achievements stand two South Island titles, as well as being an integral member of the Canterbury Crushers and Greymouth Grizzlies Stockcar Teams over a storied career.
Having stepped away from Stockcars, an invitation was extended to Cameron from former Greenstone Park clubmate Shane Olsen to have a go in a Kart late 2023. It's safe to say Cameron was up for a new challenge, as he quickly acquired a Kart, and thus, added another chapter to the legacy of the famous #107!
Cameron's first competitive outing to Greenstone Park proved successful, backing up a race win with fourth and second place runs, and holding out a number of the established names in the process. The return to the Greymouth for the King of the Coast - which the Christchurch based Paint and Panel shop owner describes as "like a second home" proved equally successful, nabbing another race win, and failing to finish off the podium all day en route to third overall. Since then, Cameron has backed those results up with a couple overall podium results at Ashburton and fifth in the main event at the North versus South at Huntly.
In the pits, Colin's biggest supporter is wife, Leanne, but couldn't do it without the support of sponsors Brown and Paterson Collision, Really Swift Parts, Auto Trim Specialists, Auto Scanning Solutions and Installation Specialists.
Colin's words of wisdom: "Never Say Never to Anything!"
