NETBALL NZ NETBALL LEADERS PROGRAMME

The aim of the Netball Leaders Programme is to grow leadership potential in young netballers through a range of activities and ongoing support from GNC.  This programme utilises Netball as a vehicle to provide opportunities for young people to learn about leadership, develop their leadership skills and grow into young leaders in thier netball centre, school or community.  Leaders can gain valuable volunteer experience while supporting others to have positive netball experiences.

They can follow one or more of three leadership pathways: Activating, Umpiring, or Coaching.

There are three award stages:

Stage 1: Bronze Award - Learning about leadership and preparing to give back through one of the three pathways.

Stage 2: Silver Award - Giving your leadership skills a go across one or more of the netball pathways.

Stage 3: Gold Award - Actioning your leadership over a longer period of time across one or more of the netball pathways.

The Bronze Award consists of five modules:

• What is Leadership
• Me as a Leader
• The Barbed Wire of Leadership
• Leading others
• Actioning Leadership

Participants will also gain valuable practical experience to support them on their leadership journey.  This programme is a great opportunity for students to build confidence and self esteem and improve a range of life skills and social skills.

2026 WM Netball Volunteer Awards

Congratulations Zeva Peard on being awardeded Highly Recommended in the Youth Category of the WM Netball Volunteer Awards!

From 2022–2026 Zeva has been involved with the GNC Youth Activation Group.  She helps connect young people with netball opportunities, supports the promotion and delivery of youth social leagues, and contributes a valuable young-person perspective to GNC initiatives.

Her coaching contribution at Campion College also helped develop the next generation of players, while her continued professional development demonstrates a commitment to improving her skills and giving back to the game.

Perhaps most importantly, Zeva is an outstanding role model. As a player she demonstrates hard work and positivity. She also demonstrates that young people can contribute meaningfully in multiple areas of netball, not only as players, but as coaches, umpires, leaders and volunteers. GNC are incredibly grateful for all the time and energy Zeva has put into netball over the years. We are proud of her growth and believe her to be a truly deserving recipient of this award.
