GREYMOUTH   ATHLETIC CLUB -   March  2017

To Athletes and Supporters,

With the season coming to a close we still have a few  events  over the next week:-

***  HELP  is needed with the running of the West Coast  Intersecondary Schools Athletics Day

At Anzac Park  this Tuesday 14th   - starting about 10am usually finished  by 3pm.  If you can help

Please let  Jack or Margaret know.

***   WEST COAST OPEN AND MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS   next Saturday 18th March

Commencing at 9.30pm.  Although the programme is set out in various grades/times

This will be looked at on the day depending on the number of athletes present with

         Some events being run jointly.

***  NEW ZEALAND MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS held in Nelson recently  -  Joe Tasker scored a win in

The Discus and Shot Put and third placing in the Weight Throw.  Jack O’Connor was placed

Second in the 400m hurdles.  The was the  first time since 2010 that Jack had run over the

Hurdles.  Both are going to compete in the World Masters Games in Auckland in 6 weeks.

Jack plans to break the NZ  Masters Record of 63sec with Joe aiming for the Discus record.

        Congratulations to both these athletes.

*** GROUNDS  - our ground is looking “prestine”   thanks to Ken & Beachy.  We are extremely

Gratefull  to Paul & Alan Berry who have delivered us a quantity of soil  - 3 bags of which went

In rabbit holes on Thursday.  At the end of the season we will be having a working bee to fill in

The dips on the track and  several hollows that have appeared on the infield.  We will continue

To set the bait for the rabbits.

***   SINGLETS AND TROPHIES - If you have a West Coast (Mahar Cup) singlet please drop off to Jack

Please return any trophies you have next Saturday or drop off to Margaret or Jack.

***   OUR PATRON  JOHN O’BRIEN  has had another stay in hospital  - he is now home but still

Unwell.  This season in the first that John has not been down at the park in 62 years.  During

That time he very  rarely missed a track and field meeting.  We have missed John this season

With timekeeping /judging  and field marking and  the knowledge he brings to the club.
