Greymouth Athletic Club has just completed a highly successful season with a strong core of senior athletes excelling at club, regional and national competitions.
Highlighted by the success in the Annual Mahar Cup triangular competition with Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast. Coast broke Nelson's 11-year reign in style with a huge team effort. 38 athletes represented Coast, many for the first time, along with 32 officials slapping on the sunscreen and ensuring West Coast athletes could concentrate on winning performances.
Other success came at Canterbury champs level with Josh Komen, Adin Martinus and Holly Robinson selected in Canterbury team for NZ Champs. Komen gaining gold in the Men's 800m, Martinus a 4th in the M16 400m & a gold medal in the cant. 4x400m relay team. Holly collected gold in the women's AWD shot & javelin along with bronze in the 100m.
Masters competed successfully at Canterbury & NZ Champs. Linda Beach starring in W50 grade with 5 Canterbury titles to go with 2 golds & 4 silvers at NZ Level.
Alison Duncan earned 3 bronzes for her throws at NZ's and Lorraine Menzies 1 silver and 4 bronzes in her throws. Jack O'Connor broke the M45 NZ record in the 400m hurdles. slashing 2 seconds off Ron Robinson's previous best effort. He also collected gold for the 400m in fine style.
Komen & Martinus finished the season in style using a special 800m open race at the Masters champs to set WC & club 800m records Komen 1:52.52 and Martinus 1:58.70 slashing 8 sec off his previous best.
