This is a new development for the Highbury Whanau Centre. This idea has been floating around for a while, it actually started when the HWC JY Touch had a relationship with Kia Ora Rugby League when Butch Jarvis was around...
SO IT IS ABOUT TIME WE DID IT!!!
It also builds on the success that we have had over the past few years from having the Rugby League School, 2008 and the Rugby Skills after school programme 2009.
The idea is to provide an avenue for young people to experience & taste Rugby League, with the aim to pathway them into the sport we love.
So basically the concept for this programme is:
- To run Rugby League skill & drills training to youth, post the HWC JY Touch season.
- This will be promoted during the HWC JY Touch Season.
- We will start small & develop slowly.
- The Junior League Programme will be run alongside the Junior Touch & pre Junior Rugby Seasons, October-December 2010 and February to April 2011.
- We will have qualified coaches running the skills & drills sessions, which will conclude with games at the end of the session.
- Care will be taken to ensure appropriate age groups are undertaken so that child safety is paramount.
