This is an ongoing development for the Highbury Whanau Centre.  We have a strong relationship with the Kia Ora Rugby League & Associated Sports Club, and are furthering this relationship through this Junior Rugby League Programme.

This idea has been floating around for a while, it actually started when the HWC JY Touch had a relationship with Kia Ora Rugby League when Butch Jarvis was around...
R.I.P "THE BUTCHER"

The idea was to provide an avenue for young people to experience & taste Rugby League, with the aim to pathway them into the sport we love.

So basically the concept for this programme is:
  • To run Rugby League skill & drills training to youth, pre, during & post the HWC JY Touch season.
  • This will be promoted during the HWC JY Touch Season.
  • We will start small & develop slowly.
  • The Junior League Programme will be run alongside Junior Touch & pre Junior Rugby Seasons, of 2014 / 2015 from October - December 2014 and February to March 2015. In preparation for the 2015 Friday Night Footy Competition.
  • We will have qualified coaches running the skills & drills sessions, which will conclude with games at the end of the session.
  • Care will be taken to ensure appropriate age groups are undertaken so that child safety is paramount.
