Practice does not make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.
Perfect practice makes perfect.

The golden rules of coaching sessions are:

Don't bore them; and
Don't confuse them.

It is important that before each session you explain to the players what the aims of the session are and how you are going to achieve them.

THE IMPORTANT FACTORS

INTEREST:  A player who is not interested will not learn. Ensure that the coaching session is interesting and enjoyable. If the players are learning then they will stay interested.

ENTHUSIASM:  The coach must take the lead and be enthusiastic at all times. The players should be encouraged to be enthusiastic. Enthusiastic people want to do more.

ATTITUDE:  Players will learn by watching you. They will not only learn technique, but attitude as well. Whatever your team produces, it will be a reflection of you and your attitudes.

FEEDBACK:  The players need your input. How are they going, are they getting better? But be careful with your feed back. Continual negative feedback will result in players giving up. Look for any improvements and praise those improvements. If you praise them, they will try harder. Look for reasons to praise them but be honest.

HONESTY:  The most important thing of all. Be honest with yourself, the club, the parents and most of all the players. The minute you lie to them you have lost them. And don't be fooled, they will know when you have lied to them.

COMPETITION:  Players love competing. Finish off each session with a game. But make sure that you even up the sides so that everyone has a chance of achieving, not necessarily winning, but being competitive.

COMMUNICATION:  A coach talking at players is not communication. For communication to be effective it must be a two way process, the players must have input as well.

THE SESSION
We are initially starting in the 13-17 year age groupings, the international age grouping.

Internationals (U/13 to U/17)

These are generalised overviews of a session. We will modify it according to your own players' and team's needs.
