Friday Night Cricket

For players aged 5 - 8

What is Friday Night Cricket?

Friday Night Cricket is aimed at our youngest cricketers, ages 5 to 8, who are either new to the game or looking to build on their current skills.

Our sessions are based on New Zealand Cricket's Smash Play Program. For more information, please visit NZC's Smash Play Website   https://play.nzc.nz/games/programmes/2

When does Friday Night Cricket start?

For the 2025/26 season, Friday Night Cricket starts on 7th November and runs until 19th December (pre-Christmas). We’ll start up again on 30th January and go through to 13th March (post-Christmas). We are waiting to hear the date for the annual Santa Parade at Huapai Domain, once this date is confirmed we will advise as we are unable to run a session on that date. Our registrations never close throughout the season so you can register anytime.

How do we work out player placement?

Players are placed in age-grade teams either in Superstars or Kiwigrade, based on their age as of November 1st. Superstars is for players aged 4-6, and Kiwigrade is for players aged 7-8. They will remain in these groups for the season.

Superstars Cricket

Superstars Cricket is for players ages 4-6. Session are run as follows:

  • 6:00 pm - 6:35 pm: Skills Session Our club coaches will begin with a warm-up, then split players into groups to rotate through different skill stations, each lasting about 10 minutes.

  • 6:40 pm - 7:00 pm: Quik Cricket Each group plays a game of Quik Cricket. Every player will have a turn to bat while others field. For the first game, batters will hit off a tee, with six hits each. As we progress, we will introduce bowling to the batters. Parent volunteers are welcome to help with fielding support to keep the games moving smoothly.

Kiwigrade Cricket

Kiwigrade Cricket is for players ages 7-8. Sessions are run as follows:

  • 5:30 pm - 5:55 pm: Skills Session Coaches will start with a warm-up, then divide Kiwigrade players into two groups. They’ll rotate through different skill stations, each lasting about 10 minutes.

  • 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm: Games Games are structured to keep players engaged and having fun. Each week, a player from each team will act as captain and lead the toss.

Optional additional weekday training session - Day and Time TBC.

What do we need to wear?

Players should wear a Kumeu Cricket Club shirt.  This is included in your fees and payable when you register.   If you do play both Friday night and Saturday cricket you are required to purchase a Club shirt to wear on Saturdays.

When do I receive my club shirt?

Any registrations received after the 1st October may take 8 - 10 weeks to receive your shirt, we are required to place a minimum of 10 shirts with our supplier and will endevour to place the order as soon as we have the required numbers. Until your shirt arrives you are welcome to wear a comfortable shirt of your choice.

What do we need to provide?

Nothing! The club provides all the necessary gear for players. While we appreciate the enthusiasm some players have for bringing their own bats, we prefer that only club-provided bats are used due to past incidents. This helps ensure consistency and safety for all players.

How can I help?

While we are fortunate to have dedicated coaches, assistance is always welcome. Whether you can support the coach, run a game as a coach, umpire, or scorer, or assist with the BBQ, tuck shop, or other tasks on the night, your contribution makes a significant difference.

How much is it to join?

Superstars (4 - 6 ages) - $128.00 ( $80.00 subs and $48.00 shirt)

Kiwigrade (7 - 8 ages) - $188.00 ( $140.00 subs and $48.00 shirt)

Flexible monthly, fortnightly or weekly payment plans are available on request.
