Cricket Awareness Sessions Year 1 - 4

Kumeū Cricket Club, in partnership with Auckland Cricket, runs engaging cricket awareness sessions designed for students in Years 1–4.

As part of the Cricket Awareness programme, a trained Activator from Auckland Cricket or Kumeū Cricket Club will visit your school with all the necessary equipment to deliver fun, cricket-based sessions. Students will have the opportunity to learn and practise key skills such as catching, throwing, batting and bowling in a positive and enjoyable environment.

Sessions take place during school time in September, October, November and February during the school terms. Ideally, we aim to provide three sessions for each participating class.

Each session runs for 30–45 minutes, allowing our Activator to deliver up to 6–7 sessions during a full school day. Each Year 1–4 class is eligible for three sessions.

Who can book sessions?

Any primary school within our catchment area is welcome to book sessions. If you are unsure whether your school falls within the catchment, please feel free to contact us.

How much do the sessions cost and how can I book?

The sessions are provided free of charge.  Sessions can be booked by emailing your expression of interest to Kumeū Cricket Club - kumeucricket@gmail.com and we will be in touch.

The objectives of our sessions are as follows:

• Emphasizing the joy of cricket: We believe that fostering positive experiences in sports is crucial for children to develop a lifelong love for physical activities.
• Developing fundamental movement skills: Cricket encompasses various fundamental movement skills, which have been recognized by Sport NZ as essential foundations for enjoyable participation in physical activities throughout life.
• Cultivating positive social skills: By engaging in group activities and teamwork, young individuals inadvertently enhance their social skills, fostering positive relationships and camaraderie.
• Gaining a basic knowledge of cricket: Participants will acquire a fundamental understanding of cricket, laying the groundwork for further exploration and involvement in the sport.
