The Waihao Box Trainings
The club has used the Waihao Box as a training location over the past five/six seasons after a few years absence, this water time enable’s our athlete’s quality long distance rowing which is critical in keeping pace with the much highly resourced clubs & schools in New Zealand.
This reduces costs to our rowing families instead of attending weekend training days in Twizel along with improved water conditions and length of water available as opposed to the Oamaru harbour.
To enable this to be a success it requires support from all the rowing families to share (Rotation) in the transporting of our rowers to the box and back on those training weekends. This will save on minivan hire.
It really is a commitment from all families to enable this to happen but if shared equally then the burden is manageable.
Waihao Box weekends are heavily weighted prior to Christmas as the club get its new novices to a competitive standard while our experienced athletes gain the water time to build a good base for their heavy schedule to come.
The club has its own fantastic rowing club shed and racing fleet of boats in Twizel that will certainly still be used at all regattas and summer training camp.
