TRACK GUIDELINES

EVERYONE PLEASE KEEP MAIN TRACK CLEAR WHEN A RACE IS ON

Athletes are to assemble at the marshalling area for events when called. Events for ages 2 yrs to 6 yrs incl will be called by the chief marshal from the marshalling area. On completion of a race athletes aged 2 yrs to 6 yrs incl should return to the marshalling area for their next event.

STARTING PROCEDURE

30m to 200m incl for all ages & 400m for ages 10 to 17incl:
When called by the starter athletes assemble behind start line.

On Your Marks. Athletes move to the start line with their feet in the start position ready for takeoff ensuring toes are behind the start line.

Set. Athletes get set ready for the start. Feet must not move from the ‘On Your Marks’ position except that the rearmost heel may be lifted from the ground. Note: Toes must stay grounded.
2 – 6 yrs will be in a standing set position,
7 - 17 yrs will be in a crouch set position.

Gun. The starting gun will be fired when all athletes are still.  2 yrs to 6 yrs will be started by the blowing of a whistle.  The start gun may be used at the 100m start for grade 5 and 6.

New Zealand Children Athletics state that all laned events for athletes aged 7-17 years must use a crouch start. This rule is enforced at all athletic meets, including club nights.

A break (false start) will be called against any athlete who starts before the gun is fired. This will be signalled by a second firing of the gun.
International Rules state that no breaks will be allowed in any event. If an athlete breaks they may be eliminated from the event.

Parents are requested to keep well clear of the finish line for all races, to allow room for the athletes to run through the finish at full pace.

At the end of these races, all athletes are to return to the Finish line
and STAND IN THE LANE THEY RAN IN, until cleared by the chief judge, when all placings have been given.

The Long Distance Races; 300m 7 + 8 yrs,  400m 9 yrs only,  800m + 1500m  9-17yrs
When called by the starter athletes assemble behind the start line.

On Your Marks. Athletes move to the start line and stand in position ready to start ensuring toes are behind the start line.
Gun. The gun will be fired when all athletes are ready.
NOTE: There is no Set command for these events. Breaks or false starts are the same as for Sprints.

At the end of these races, all athletes need to remain near the Finish line/Recording table until they have been given a placing.

The judges’ decision at any event will be final in the first instance.  It is allowable to politely question a decision, but any protest
over a result can only be made directly to the club President (or to the most senior club official present).

No verbal abuse to an event official or any club official will be tolerated.
In such an instance the complaint will not be considered, and the offending party is liable to be removed from the club grounds.

(Remember we are all volunteers trying to do our best for the kids).
