PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME

"Inspiring young women who are successful learners and act with integrity."

Palmerston North Girls’ High School provides an outstanding education for young women from Palmerston North, the wider Manawatū region and a range of overseas countries. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment that enables students to become independent, curious learners and future problem solvers. We maintain high standards of achievement and have high expectations of behaviour. Our results at all levels are significantly outstanding and higher than national averages.

Our school provides a wide curriculum that includes a full range of subjects at all levels with an expectation that students will also be involved in extracurricular sporting, artistic and/or cultural activities.

In addition, our school provides opportunities for students to be involved in extension opportunities to further their knowledge and skills. Girls at all levels are encouraged to take up leadership roles. These opportunities help them develop greater self-confidence and become healthy risk takers within our supportive environment. Many of our students also gain significant scholarships to support further study at tertiary institutions.

We invite you to take the opportunities we offer to visit our school and consider how we may form a learning partnership to achieve the best outcomes for your daughter's future.

PROSPECTUS

Confident Young Women

At PNGHS, we offer a very broad range of subjects in many different disciplines including Business, Arts, Sciences, Social Sciences, Technology, and Sports. In our all-girl study environment, students are encouraged to be innovative and bold, to explore and try things that they might otherwise not try in front of boys. Our teachers can focus on teaching methodology that best suits girls. Our students enjoy custom-tailored learning and instruction. They find much greater freedom and confidence to express themselves and pursue their interests.

Dedicated teachers

Our teachers are dedicated and professional educators who are committed to students’ individual needs that are met by working alongside the students to achieve their academic goals for excellence. Their underpinning knowledge and skills will be gained from practical and theoretical lessons.

A Celebration of Diversity

1200 students join together in celebration of cultural diversity at our school. We are proud to embrace many different cultures including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Thai, Saudi Arabian, Fijian, German, and French, alongside with Pacifika and our host New Zealand or Kiwi culture. Our dynamic Multicultural Committee runs a great range of activities during the year like the International Friendship Club, Diversity Day, Food Festival, and International Fashion Show. We also actively participate in the annual Palmerston North’s Festival of Cultures and the city’s International Student Welcome. Events such as these allow our girls to learn about each other, to respect each other’s culture, and develop life-long friendship.

Tomorrow’s Women

At PNGHS, students have the opportunity to focus on their studies, and participate in a wide range of activities to develop their leadership skills. They also learn to respect and celebrate cultural diversity, learn to listen, be proactive, be patient, flexible and assertive when dealing with a variety of people. These are essential and marketable skills that will be helpful in their future as successful tertiary students, citizens and potential leaders of the world.
