10 April 2010:

Ratana B's started off their season with an away win against Taihape B's 41-21. It was good to see a squad of 22 players dressed in their number ones.

The team was well led by veteran Cornel Mason at 1st five and the forwards gained momentum as the game wore on, with bullocking runs from Tipene from set phase that led to his 2 tries, inclusive of a damaging run that left opposing players sprawled.

The forwards were able to retain ball from set scrums and Adam Stubbings at half-back produced a man of the match performance, with good passing, running and deft kicking. A further 3 tries could have been scored unfortunately ball being dropped near and over the line.

Changes in the second half to allow all the boys to have some game time did see a loss of structure and Cornel continually applied the pressure opting to play attacking rugby.

The backs definitely have the ability to penetrate and with further games and improved timing should be more fluid. Set pecies such as kick off and lineouts will also further improve during the season.

The team is a predominantly young side with a good core coming back from last season.  Overall a performance where many positives can be taken but definitely some core drills required on set peices and collision areas of the game, which will be tested by Ruapehu next week..
