SELWYN HAWKS MONDAY NIGHT COMMUNITY BASKETBALL

TERM 1 (2024) - We currently have no Adult Competition running during term 1 but are looking to get a competition going in term 2 of 2024.

This grade intends to provide adults a safe environment that promotes enjoyable social connections through basketball. We aim to have fun, even match ups where participants of all ability levels are able to participate. It's a great way to keep active so grab some friends, your family or workmates and enter a team! 

Who? 

Open to all adults over 15 years old. Team register online, individuals get in touch via email.

What?

Mixed 5v5 team competition.

Games are 20-minute halves, running clock. (Note this is subject to change based on entries)

Where?

Selwyn Sports Centre, Broadlands Drive, Rolleston.

When?

Monday nights - 6 weeks starting TBC

Games will start 6.30pm & 7.20pm (may change depending on registrations).

Uniform?

Teams must wear the same colour top.

Note two referees will be provided per game, if you wish to referee please get in touch via email. 


RULES OF COMPETITION 

  • Open mixed competition
  • Fair match ups are expected based on ability
  • While games may have competitive moments, overly physical and agressive play is not welcome 
  • A referee, at their discretion, may penalise behaviours that are not in the spirit of the game 
  • 20 Minute running clock halves
  • Team members must all wear the same colour tops. Any colour bottoms are fine.
  • Any fouls in the act of shooting (missed shot) will be awarded 2 points

  • Any fouls in the act of shooting (made shot) will be awarded 3 points (and 1)

  • Call your own fouls! The game will be overseen from the referees however honesty is the best policy – call it as you would like it to be called on you!

  • Further to the above; fighting, arguing, intimidation or any other similar behaviours will not be tolerated. Warnings will be given in the first instance. Further issues will result in the player being unable to continue play. This is in accordance with BBNZ zero tolerance policy. Further info can be found on the BBNZ website. 

  • Subs are rolling via Hi-5 near halfway this must not provide an unfair advantage e.g. subbing a player to start or defend a fast break.

  • The clock will start at the allocated time. It is up to you, your team, and your opposition to be ready to go. 

  • All other rules are as per standard basketball rules.
