South Otago Inter Sub Association Competiton
West Otago and Owaka met on Wednesday 16 August at Clinton, in a fixture that turned out to be the decider of who'd win this years competition. Both Sub Assocations had three wins from three fixtures, creating a winner takes all scenario.
The first round was split with two wins a piece. West Otago came out hot in round two, winning three of the four matches to jump out to a commanding 10 - 6 overall lead. This meant Owaka would have to run the table and take out all four remaining matches to get over the line, without relying on a countback of ends if the fixture was to end in a 12 all draw.
As we've seen in the past of many competitions, all it takes is one bad round to spoil things. Unfortuantely, West Otago had just that, dropping the lot and allowing Owaka to steal victory from the jaws of defeat, 14 to 10. Had West Otago won one match in the last round, the ends tie breaker would have favoured Owaka anyway.
Thanks to all four of our Sub Associations for fielding their 16 players during the season for these fixtures.

South Otago v Otago
Sunday 30 April 2023 at OIBA
Otago proved too strong for South Otago once again, comfortably winning the Sportsmanship Trophy 96-44.
With a numbers reduced to 20 players per Association this year, it was hoped that this might help to bridge the gap between the two sides. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be the case.
Otago started solidly in the opening Fours round, then really stamped their mark on the contest with strong showings in the Singles and Pairs rounds before lunch.
The afternoon continued much the same as the morning session, with Otagos lead stretching at every change of discipline.
While it wasn't the result South Otago had hoped for, there were some steady performances to come out of the day.
After a late call up into the team, Chris Moffitt finshed with 3 wins and 2 draws from the 6 games, followed by Stephen Preddy, Hannah Botting, Peter Grant, and Robert Wilson all recording 3 wins each.
