Waikanae Pony Club

About Us

Waikanae PC has amazing grounds and facilities right in the middle of Waikanae.

We have a huge all-weather arena, a cross-country course, and our rally area.

History

Waikanae Pony Club (WPC) was established at Waikanae Park in 1958 and leases the grounds from Kapiti Coast District Council (KCDC).

The Council was able to purchase the land for Waikanae Park in 1958 with the assistance of the late Sir Charles Fleming, who contributed when bidding exceeded the Council’s budget. His gift was conditional on the land being available for pony club activities in-perpetuity, an agreement KCDC honours to this day.

Membership

WPC has a membership of around 30 riding members. We cater for a wide range of riders, from those just starting out on the lead rein, to those working on their A and H Certificates, as well as those riders competing at a national level. We encourage all our riders to work towards the certificates offered by NZPCA, but this is not a compulsory part of being a member.

Our aim is for riders to have fun while improving their riding and learning how to better care for their horses and ponies.

Season

Our season runs from August to April, with rallies held every second Thursday from 5:30pm (or on Saturday mornings when it's not daylight saving time). We also run fundraising events that are open for anyone to enter. These events raise valuable funds that enable us to pay coaches, enter teams into competitions and look after our grounds and facilities.

Affiliations

WPC is a branch of the Horowhenua Pony Club, along with Kapiti (Raumati), Otaki, Levin and Moutoa (Foxton) branches.

Horowhenua Pony Club is part of the Manawatu/West Coast area, which also incorporates Rangitikei, Manawatu and Wanganui. There are several branches within each of these clubs, and all branches, clubs and areas are affiliated to the New Zealand Pony Club Association (NZPCA)

We operate under the NZPCA Fair Play charter, and all members and parents are required to follow the NZPCA Code of Conduct throughout the season.
