What options do you have available for girls?

We offer U11 Softball, U11 Hardball, U13 Hardball and U16 Hardball

How do you work out which grade I can play in?

Players are placed into teams based on their age as of 1 April 2025, following Auckland Cricket Association (ACA) guidelines and national standards.

  • To be eligible for U11, players must be 9 or 10 years old as of 1 April 2025

  1. i.e. born between 2 April 2013 and 1 April 2016

  • To be eligible for U13, players must be 11 or 12 years old as of 1 April 2025

  1. i.e. born between 2 April 2011 and 1 April 2014

  • To be eligible for U16, players must be 13, 14, or 15 years old as of 1 April 2025
  1. i.e. born between 2 April 2009 and 1 April 2012

While age is the primary factor for grade eligibility, we also consider a player's experience and skill level when forming teams. Where possible, we will do our best to accommodate friendship requests, as long as they don’t compromise safety, development, or ACA regulations.

These guidelines are designed to support fairness, player wellbeing, and long-term enjoyment of the game.

What is the pathway for girls?

The cricket pathway for girls depends on the age they join and their stage of development, but typically follows this progression:

  • U11 Softball – A great starting point for younger players, focused on learning the game in a fun and supportive environment, with an emphasis on foundational skills.

  • U11 or U13 Hardball – As players gain confidence and experience, they move into hardball cricket. Placement in U11 or U13 depends on age, skill level, and readiness for the hardball format.

  • U16 Hardball – This grade focuses on advancing technical and tactical skills in a more competitive setting, played on grass wickets at Waikaraka Park. It serves as preparation for the next step: Premier Women’s Cricket.

Each stage is designed to build confidence, develop ability, and encourage a lifelong love of the game. Players are supported to progress through the grades at a pace that suits their age and experience.

Placement at each stage is based on a combination of age, skill level, and player safety, and is determined by the club in line with Auckland Cricket guidelines.

What happens if I have a request to play in a lower or higher grade?

At our club, player safety and wellbeing are our top priorities. We follow a strict duty of care and adhere to the playing guidelines set by Auckland Cricket (ACA) and New Zealand Cricket (NZC). These standards are designed to support players' physical, emotional, and developmental needs — ensuring a positive, enjoyable experience while helping to prevent burnout or discouragement.

Grade placements are based on each player's age as of 1 April 2025. In some cases, a player may be considered to play up or down a grade if it supports their development and they meet the eligibility criteria. However, these adjustments are not guaranteed and are subject to strict guidelines:

  • Playing up one grade may be permitted at the club's discretion, depending on age, skill level, and coach feedback.

  • Playing down one grade or playing up more than one grade requires formal approval from Auckland Cricket via their dispensation process.

If you wish to request a grade adjustment for your player, please contact Charlotte at kumeucricket@gmail.com. The club will assess the request and, if appropriate, submit a formal application to Auckland Cricket.

Please note: Auckland Cricket’s decision is final.

We understand that grade placement decisions can be emotional, especially when friendships are involved. While our first responsibility is always to place players where they will be safe and supported, we do our best to balance that with the social and developmental needs of each individual wherever possible.

Where do we play?

Games are generally played on Saturday mornings across a range of venues depending on the grade:

  • U11 Softball teams play at Melville Park, with games starting at 8:00am on a well-maintained mowed lawn.

  • U11 and U13 Hardball teams play at either Huapai Domain (home games) or at other clubs and school grounds within our competition pool. These games begin at 8:30am.

  • U16 Hardball teams play at Waikaraka Park, also starting at 8:30am. These matches are played on grass wickets, giving players valuable experience in a more advanced playing environment.

What do we need to wear?

Our club uniform policy applies to all players and helps ensure a consistent and professional appearance across all teams.

U11 Softball - Players are required to wear the Kumeu Cricket Club playing shirt, pants and either a club cap or floppy hat. Only closed-toe trainers / cricket shoes may be worn for safety. Open-toed footwear is not permitted.

U11, U13, and U16 Hardball - Players are required to wear the Kumeu Cricket Club playing shirt, pants and either a club cap or floppy hat. Shorts are not permitted in hardball cricket under any circumstances.  Only closed-toe trainers / cricket shoes with no spikes are permitted when playing on artificial wickets.

For players in the U16 grade, cricket spikes may be worn when playing on grass. If a game is moved to an artificial surface, players must either remove their spikes or bring a spare pair of closed-toe trainers to change into. Spiked shoes are not permitted on artificial turf. Players who cannot remove their spikes or do not have alternative footwear may not be able to bowl or bat.

All uniform items must be ordered directly through the club. The club does not hold stock, and delivery from our supplier (Gray-Nicolls) can take approximately 4–6 weeks. We strongly recommend placing orders early to avoid delays.

Is there anything else I need to know?

We offer a 10% discount for additional family members, applied to the lowest or equally priced registration fee. This discount is only available when all registered family members are paying full fees.

Please note: The family discount does not apply to any promotional registrations, including zero-fee or heavily discounted programmes, as these are already subsidised. The family discount is not applied to the clothing portion of your subs.

What happens if I wish to withdraw my registration?

We understand that circumstances can change, or you may simply change your mind. If you choose to withdraw your registration, your refund will depend on the timing of your cancellation, whether you have paid in full or are on a payment plan, and the status of your uniform order, including whether it has been issued, if it has been returned to the club and the condition in which it is returned.

If you wish to cancel your registration with the club, please contact Charlotte on 021 885 993 or kumeucricket@gmail.com.All cancellations must be submitted in writing.

The following cancellation policies apply

1. Payment in Full – Registration Portion Only

  • Up to and including 15 October 2025: Full refund, less a $65.00 administration fee.

  • From 16 October until the day before the first scheduled match: 50% refund.

  • From the first scheduled match onwards: No refund.

2. Payment in Full – Uniform Portion Only

Refunds on uniforms will be considered on a case-by-case basis and are subject to:

  • The status of your uniform order (including whether it has been issued).

  • Whether the uniform is returned to the club and the condition in which it is received.

Refunds for the uniform portion will only be processed once the uniform is returned. The refund amount will be determined after inspection, based on its condition (e.g., new, used) and potential resale value.

3. Payment Plan – Registration Portion Only

Refunds for payment plans will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. They will depend on:

  • The timing of the cancellation (in line with the timeframes for payments in full).

  • The total amount paid towards the plan at the time of cancellation.

In some cases, additional payments may be required to cover fees already incurred.

4. After the Season Has Started

Once the season has commenced, no refunds will be issued. All payment obligations remain as outlined in the relevant sections above.
