NZPCA ECTP D level Fast Track 2016/17

The purpose of this document is to assist Areas with the planning and organisation of ECTP D level Fast Track Weekends. This is a shared initiative with NZPCA and any Area Pony Clubs who are interested in upskilling their Club and Branch Coaches as per the NZPCA Strategic Plan for 2016 – 2020.

The Equestrian Coaches Training programme (ECTP) was initiated in 1991 (formally EITP). Since then results have proved that it is fulfilling a real need for existing Pony Club Coaches who want to further their teaching skills and the Fast Track weekends have already proved to be a big success for the 44 coaches who recently took part in Hawkes Bay, Franklin Thames Valley and Marlborough Nelson West Coast.

The weekend will consist of Friday 5 – 7pm, Saturday 8.30 – 4pm and Sunday 8.30 – 4pm (times are approximate). The cost of the weekend is $300.00; this includes registration to ECTP, all resources, a Coaches Course and all 4 Practical Assessments. Demo riders are required, but this is a good experience for them too.

It is helpful if Coaches can do some of the written work prior to the weekend but not essential. It is essential, however, that they have some experience of Coaching at Pony Club prior to attending the weekend.

NZPCA and Areas will need to work together to make this happen.

What NZPCA need from Area:

  •   Adate

  •   A reliable, computer savvy contact/organiser/go to person

  •   Maximum of 15 existing Pony Club Coaches, all must be members of NZPCA

  •   A suitable venue that is appropriate for the date. i.e. if you choose a winter date then an indoor

    arena would be a requirement

  •   A room with chairs and tables, a kitchen for refreshments etc.

  •   Demo Riders – number dependent upon registered coaches, usually at least 8 for Saturday and 10

on Sunday. Their attendance must be guaranteed, the weekend cannot be completed without the

    required number of riders

  •   Accommodation and evening meal for the Officials, Hosting is often done by the attending coaches

or riders parents but this is up to the Area

  •   Food and Beverages for Officials/riders/coaches. This can be done on a shared basis with the

attending coaches. Officials are not expected to bring their own food. NZPCA will:

  •   Organise the Tutors/Markers/Assessors/Coach Facilitators (Officials) dependent upon numbers.

  •   Advertise to other areas if there are insufficient numbers locally

  •   Co-ordinate registrations and collect all payments

  •   Pay for flights/travel for Officials

  •   Pay all ECTP marking and assessment fees

  •   Send out all resources to Coaches

  •   Send out paperwork to Officials
