Mirth Solomon
(née Te Moananui) 1939 - 2023

Mirth Solomon

Netball Rotorua is incredibly proud of our goal-shooting Silver Fern #36, winning the World Championship representing NZ in 1967.

Mirth was involved with netball in Rotorua from the 1960s onwards, taking up the President's role from 2001 - 2016, succeeding Taini Jamison.

She was often seen at our courts supporting the players and umpires and made a big difference in helping to increase the uptake of netball in school children.

Mirth was also a top-level umpire.

Together with the 1967 World Championship-winning team, Mirth was inducted into the  New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame in 1996, and she was inducted into the Māori Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.

Solomon was also honoured with a Multi Serve for National Education, a Netball Bay of Plenty Service Award, a Netball New Zealand Service Award, and was a Life Member at the Netball Rotorua Centre.
