My Umpire hasn’t turned up!
Firstly check with your school Coordinator, or Umpire Coordinator to see if they can find a replacement for you. If unsuccessful,
try and see if anyone is available from the Umpires Room. They may be able to put your request on the whiteboard for someone to take up.

For Primary and Intermediate games,  ask the control room to put a request over the loudspeaker, alternatively, the Team will need to arrange for one of their players or a parent to umpire. Whistles cost $10, and are available from the umpire's room.

What is the protocol when taking the score?
The rules state that one person from each team must be on the scorecard at all times. They must stand together at mid-court.

I don't think the scorecard is correct!
Once the game has ended and the NRC scorecards have been completed, the official score stands as per our regulations. This is why one person from each team should be assigned to the scorecards and stand at the mid court for the duration of the game.

They used someone from a higher team.

As soon as you notice a discrepancy you need to inform us upstairs. Players may play up to a higher-graded team, but may not play down.  Teams need to tick off their team sheet before each game, so if you come upstairs to query it immediately, we can come and check at the court. We really can’t do anything after the event unless we have been able to witness and question the player concerned. If we do find the team at fault we would be able to follow our regulations and the team would then lose by default.  immediately.

Their umpire was very biased and cost us the game. It’s so unfair.
You need to let us know these things when it is happening so that we can check it out and try to do something about them. It is too late after the game. We hope that our new system of allocating qualified umpires will negate these complaints.

Where can I locate the draw?
It is available on the website along with the results, and also in the window of the canteen downstairs.

Points – what will happen if we win?
Win is = 4 points
Drawn is = 1 point
Loss is = 0 point
Loss within 5 points = 2 points (Seniors)
Loss within 3 points = 2 points (Schools)

What happens if we are players down?
You can take the court with 5 players. Any players who are late must report to the court umpires before they can take the court. You cannot borrow players from another team.
You will lose by default.

My daughter is wearing a cast and the Dr said she can play!
We don't allow anyone wearing a hard cast to take the court. It is the safety of others more than anything. Soft casts and bandages are OK.

The coach on the other team just moved some players around on the court during the game!
The 2024 Rules Update sees a change to the stoppages rule. The new rule means teams no longer have to fake an injury to make positional changes during play, they can just request a ‘tactical change’ immediately after a goal has been scored. This is in addition to the ability to make changes at an interval or at a stoppage for injury, illness or blood. (Team Change: When an on-court player changes playing positions with another on-court player. Substitution: When a player moves from the team bench to replace a player on the court.
)

Whether team changes or substitutions, must be made without delay. This is to ensure the umpire is able to restart play quickly so the momentum of the match is not affected. While you have a right to make as many tactical changes as you like, if the number of changes is becoming overly disruptive to play, the umpire can refuse to allow them, or even penalise the team for delaying play.

The spectators are loud and abusive (not in the spirit of the game).
Report to the control room and an official will come out and observe and take action if necessary.

Am I allowed to approach an umpire?
Only the team Captain is allowed to approach an umpire during breaks and after a game to clarify a rule.

Where can my team warm up?
As space is scarce about the courts we do ask that you do not practice goaling whilst a game is in process. Court 5 is not used, but consider anyone else also using that space.
There is also space from court 15 on.

Where is lost property?
Clothing is located in the upstairs space, ask at the office, and valuables are given to the control room for safekeeping.

Is there a phone I can use?
There is a phone (landline) in the upstairs office. This is to make urgent quick calls within the local exchange. No mobile phone calls can be made. There is a bar on the phone.

Where do I fill my drink bottle up?
Down the walkway to the outside toilets is a drink fountain and a bottle filler.

Where do I get a plaster?
Firstly, your team should have a first aid kit courtside. If it is for an injury, plasters can be obtained from the upstairs office. If the plaster is needed to cover jewellery then we can’t give you one - no jewellery is permitted to be worn and all piercings must be removed before taking the court.

My daughter has just had her ears pierced for her birthday. Can she play?
No, for safety reasons no jewellery is permitted to be worn. She will have to remove them.

Am I permitted to wear Tongue or Navel piercings?
No, not while playing netball.

My daughter is not allowed to take her Medic Alert bracelet/necklace off. Can she still play?
Yes as long as it is taped for the safety of all players. The “Alert” part can be visible.

Can I wear gloves/hat/sunglasses/long/trousers/thermal tops?
A player may wear clothing that is part of the team's registered uniform. Teams must be “uniform” in appearance. Prescription glasses may be worn. Trousers or bike pants should not be worn unless permission has been granted by the Netball Executive on medical or religious grounds. Gloves, hats, and sunglasses are not permitted.

Can I wear my acrylic nails? They are smooth and won’t scratch anybody.
No, acrylics cannot be worn while playing netball.

Where is the first aid room?
We do not have a first aid room at NRC.

Where can I get ice?
From the upstairs office. Please return for refreezing when you have finished.

Where is the Umpire's Room?
Between the downstairs outside door and the alleyway to the outside toilets.

Where are the toilets?
There are 3 rooms downstairs for the toilets, plus there is an outside room, a men’s only toilet, and a wheelchair-access toilet outside in the alleyway.

Can boys play?
YES. Netball Rotorua is introducing a secondary school mixed league from 2024 and we encourage entry into this league for boys and girls. We also run Twilight netball in the summer which includes a mixed league. Boys are permitted to play from year 1 - 8 anyway, but this encourages some more game time for them from 2024 onwards.
