Our club was founded in 1960

In 1960 Superintendent Fred Taylor - who became Waverley's first patron - wished his family could belong to a swimming club. There were few clubs locally, and even then there were such things as waiting lists and they were long. On the 13th October 1960, Fred convened a meeting with several others at the police station... the outcome of this meeting was that Invercargill had a new swim club - Waverley Swimming Club.

Waverley's first ever swim meet was the Waverley Carnival, in 1962.

Today Waverley has 180-200 learn-to-swim and competitive swimming members, plus coaches, technical officials, and committee members.  We provide a supportive environment for your child to develop and extend their swimming skills.
