2026 Winter Sport Registrations Are Currently Closed

INJURY MANAGEMENT

Wellington High School requires all injuries and incidents involving players, spectators, students, volunteers, visitors and contractors to be recorded, whether they occur on site, during Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC), or at school sports activities. Recording every incident, including near misses, helps the school meet its health and safety obligations, identify patterns, reduce risks, and ensure a safe environment for everyone involved in our programmes and events.

Injury and medical management policy

Students and their whānau are responsible for informing the Sports Department of any relevant injuries, medical conditions, or ongoing health needs that may affect participation in sports or events.

This information must be self-managed and kept up to date on our school system, so that appropriate support and safety measures can be put in place where required.

If a student is selected to attend an event, trip, or tournament, additional details may be requested in line with the school’s risk assessment procedures and EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom) guidelines.

In some cases, families may be asked to provide further medical information before the student is cleared to participate.

INJURY PROTECTION HUB

Wellington High School encourages students, parents, and whānau to access trusted information about preventing injuries, recognising concussion, and supporting recovery for young people in sport. The resources below are aimed at helping families make informed decisions and work alongside coaches, managers, and health professionals to keep players safe.

The links below provide independent information and support for families and players about concussion, brain injury, and staying safe in sport:

In case of an emergency, call 111 immediately and request the appropriate service (ambulance, police, or fire). Then notify the Sports Office at sport@whs.school.nz so staff can support the student and whānau. For urgent medical care, Wellington Regional Hospital Accident & Emergency can be contacted on 04 385 5999.
