Team registrations close: Friday 23 February

Our teams compete in a weekly competition administered by Tauranga Hockey Association.  Games are predominantly played at the Tauranga Hockey Centre (THC), however, Tauranga Boys College and Bethlehem College may be used if necessary.

Before registering please note that games are played on the following dates:

• King's Birthday Weekend - Friday 31 May, Saturday 01 June (except Funsticks), Monday 03 June.
• Term 2 holidays Week 1 (as public schools are not on holiday for that week).  Saturday 29 June, Monday 1 July, Tuesday 2 July and Friday 5 July.  If your child cannot play because you are away on holiday, it is your responsibility to assist with finding a replacement player, as soon as your absence is known, to ensure the team does not have to default.

Teams available:

1st XI Girls (Year 09-13 ):

• Game day:  Monday afternoon/evening
• Season dates:   14 May to 26 August. 
• Training:  Wednesday 5-6:30pm at Tauranga Boys College Turf and Thursday 4.30-5.30pm at THA.

1st XI Boys (Year 09-13):

• Game day:  Tuesday afternoon/evening.
• Season dates:  15 May to 27 August. 
• Training:  Wednesday 5-6:30pm at Tauranga Boys College Turf.

New Zealand Secondary School Tournament Week (1st XI teams): Sunday 01 September to Friday 06 September 2024 in Auckland.  NB:  If you intend to trial/play for the 1st XI you must be able to commit to Tournament.  Mock exams will be completed prior to Tournament Week.

Super 6s (Year 09-13 Girls/Boys/Mixed):

• Game day:  Tuesday afternoon/evening
• Season dates: 15 May to 27 August. 
• Training: Boys and Girls from this team, will join the 1st XI training, as per above.

Kwik Sticks (Years 07/08 Girls/Boys): 

Coaches:  Gene Coates-Reid, both Girls and Boys teams.

• Game day:  Friday afternoon/evening.
• Season dates: Friday 10 May to Friday 30 August.
• Intermediate Coaches, Managers & Umpires Night:  Friday 3 May

Primary (Year 03-04):

Coach:  Emily Pennington, ACG senior student, 1st XI Hockey Player.

• Season dates: 4 May to 31 August (Festival Day - 4 May, Grading Games - 11 May)
• Training: Friday lunchtime at ACG starting week 1 term 2.

• 12-week programme in various locations around the city. This programme is a fun environment to learn and develop hockey skills.
• $50.00 per child
• Starts week of 13 May and ends 31 August.

​​​​​​Hockey Club

Coach:  Gene Coates-Reid

Gene is a highly experienced player and coach and has extensive experience in coaching across all age groups from school to club, as well as regional, national and international levels. 

He has in the past been a Sport Bay of Plenty Development Hockey Officer and has been Head Coach for many teams including Auckland, Northland, and Central Districts age group and National Hockey League (NHL) teams, Midlands men’s teams, Tauranga Hockey U13-U18 Rep teams, NZ Academy teams, Tauranga Masters teams, and NZ Masters teams.   Gene is also the Head Coach and driving force at Moana Hockey. 

Gene currently coaches our Boys 1st XI, as well as our Girls and Boys Year 7-8 team, and provides coaching support/mentoring to our student and parent coaches of our Primary teams. 

Gene has a wonderful manner in which he imparts his knowledge to the players he coaches. He is player centric which makes the whole experience both enjoyable and valuable for all participants.

Available to / Day and Location:

• Year 7-9:  Tuesday Lunchtime on the turf.
• Year 3-6:  Wednesday Lunchtime on the turf.

Dates and Duration:

8-week programme, starting Week 2 Term 2.

What to wear:

• Students must change into their PE gear (promptly) and wear appropriate sports shoes and socks.  Students will also need a mouthguard and shinguards.
• Hockey sticks and balls can be provided.

Fees:

$80 per student per term.  Registration per term is required via the below form.  Registrations close Friday 3 May or when the club is full.

Payment is to be made directly to Coach Gene via the below details by Friday 10 May.

Team Uniforms:

• Y 03-13: Sports uniform and socks provided.
• Y 01-02:  PE uniform to be worn. Navy socks must be purchased/worn.
• Students must supply their own hockey stick, shin guards, mouth guard, and sports shoes.​​​​​​​
