2019 Year 7 & 8 Badminton Teams Tournament Results:
The Year 7 & 8 Badminton Inter School Annual Competition was held on Thursday 16 May 2019 at the Badminton Centre. The competition was fierce, loud and a huge learning curve for many players who had never played before in an indoor facility with white lines, correct height nets and international hall height. The teams were exceptionally competitive they played with enthusiasm, ask questions how they can improve their game, demonstrated good sportsmanship and umpired on the day. Well done.
The 2019 competition welcomed TKKM o Whatatutu and TKKMoNga Taonga Toturuki Tokomaru first timers at this competition. Te Kaupapa Maori o Mangatuna returned after a not participating for a few years. It was good to see regulars from Tolaga Bay Area School, Campion College, Sonrise Christian School, Gisborne Intermediate, Te Karaka Area School and Waikirikiri School. Returning to join the competition. Nineteen teams in all participated compared to sixteen in 2019. The format of the teams were mixed with 2 girls and 2 boys in each team, playing a doubles and a mixed doubles.
Thanks go to Phil Robinson from Sport Gisborne, who was recognized for his 8 years involvement with this competition. Thanks also to the schools that participated, to the teachers and caregivers of players, who looked after the teams during the day. Finally to the Waikirikiri School - sports co-ordinator, staff member, parent and players that in their byes became runners, court marshals all stepping in to make the day most successful, a huge thank you were awesome.
