BIZminton2020 final results have 3P’s + 1 at top

The honours on the final night of BIZminton2020 mercantile badminton competition went to 3P’s+1. They defeated Uawa1 6 matches to love to clinch the trophy.

The 3P’s + 1 team of Gabe Perano, Stella Person, Dane Berry and Debbie Brown (in the absence of Rubi Perano) dominated their final tie of the competition from the start. Uawa1 - Cynthia Sidney, Kahu Brown, Manaia Puha, Shanan Gray and reserve player Te Aomihia Walker o wait for the last match of the tie to get close to recording a win. The Uawa pairing, Puha and Sidney came back in the latter stages of their match against Gabe and Stella Perano before losing by three points; 26-23.

The Plate section was won by Nga Uri a Maui from TEAM A runner-up. Both were new teams to the competition.  The improvement in both teams over the five weeks was amazing, and it was great to be see a few old hands enjoying their  return to badminton courts. 

All final matches were very competitive, but accompanied by lots of laughter. Easy shots were missed among some fantastic play and amazing shots.

Spot prizes were won by the Stanley Family, Enterprise, Team A and Slammers. Social distancing requirements meant no supper was served, but a quick prize-giving was held immediately after the last games.

BIZminton2020 results for Wednesday 26th August 2020 and draw for 2 September

BIZminton2020 continues to be played on Wednesday with an altered competition due to withdrawal of teams and players due to the ALERT2 regulations.  Those that played were enthusiastic with some very close matches. Often the final tie score didn’t reflect the closeness of some games. Two ties results were on countback of points after 3 all draws. Final nights will be held on 9th September.

Business house league starts 5th August

Gisborne’s badminton business house league starts tomorrow, with few games at 6pm. The organisors decided to have two grades - competitive and social – this year. Fifteen teams entered, and with most choosing to play in the competitive section, it has been decided in the first round all teams would play in the main competition. The winners would move into the competitive section and the first-round losers will form the social section. 

The team a mixture of new entries and returning “oldies returning”, with the total number of teams for this event up by four.

BIZminton5 – Results 4  and Final Night  Draw

The fourth round of BIZminton 5 was completed on Wednesday night, and teams moved on to the first round of  Final Playoffs made up teams placed 1st & 2nd in the Round Robin and a Fun Round Robin made up of the other teams.

GDC once again held on to their winning margin against Monday Madness 3 matches to 2 and a draw. Enterprise continue to be on winning streak with some very close matches against Slammers, a couple of points in four of the games, although laugher and unconventional badminton was the winner.

WPS Opus 1 and 2 had to fight it out in a workplace thriller, hopefully the winners shouted morning tea the next day!!!!!

BIZminton5 – Results Week 3 and Week 4 Draw

The third round of BIZminton 5 was held on Wednesday with night with some very close matches. Enterprise continued their winning form and won 6 love, although Hamish and Graham from WPS Opus 2 were unfortunate to be beaten by Enterprise’s Marsh and Amy 23-26.

Slammers and the Sidney Whanau had the closest of games with Slammers winning 4 matches to 2, after scores 23-26; 24-25 and 26-25.

ThemissBhaviours continued to dominate in their tie against GDC, who lost 2 matches in the narrowest of margins 20-23 & 22-23 to the ‘Coasties’.

BIZminton6 Competition Rules

  • Team entry fees are $100 plus provide a spot prize (value $10) for a 5 week competition from 31st July 2019. This covers hall lighting, shuttles. Hall hireage, etc. Entry is guaranteed once payment received or other payments arrangements made.  
  • Games will be played on Wednesday evenings from 6pm. until approx. 8.30pm. All matches will be played at the Badminton Centre, 134 Roebuck Road.
  • Teams are made up of 4 players or more. Each team must be mixed gender with one experienced player only. Each player must play each game with a different partner. Maximum of 3 games per player. Players must have a minimum of 2 matches per tie. Players can only play for one team.
  • Games will be doubles and/or mixed doubles only. Teams will play 1 tie consisting of 6 games, with each game timed for 10mins. In the event of a draw players to play to the next point. Score to be recorded on the tie sheet at the end of the time. Badminton rally-point scoring applies.
  • Players enter at their own risk. No responsibility will be accepted for any injury received during the tournament.
  • By entering this event, the player hereby agrees and acknowledges that any person, shall have the right to: photograph and/or record on video all and any games or practice conducted during the course of the event, retain such photographs or video recordings for their own use of whatsoever nature, distribute such photographs or video recordings to any other party, display such photographs or video recordings during the event or any time thereafter, in any form whatsoever (including, but not limited to: promotional displays of the organisers and/or the sponsors of the event or any similar event, social network sites, the website(s) of the organisers and/or sponsors of the event and of Badminton Eastland, PROVIDED THAT no such photographs or video recordings shall be used or retained for any illegal immoral or unseemly use or purpose.
