The South Island's premier all-weather venue, home to CNC and friends at Ngā Puna Wai, is on track for opening on 13 November 2023. According to Apollo Projects Ltd, the completion of the building and fit-out is moving swiftly, with signs of distinctive Waitaha Canterbury whero | red evident in the facade. In the central core areas, plasterboard and paint is being completed.

Ceilings, tiling and flooring are commencing, while the stair and mezzanine balustrade are reflecting ongoing progress.Vistors at present can enjoy the sweeping view across both sides of the courts from the mezzanine. It is a fully accessible space that will give all spectators the chance to keep an eye on action right across the venue. The court markings have been applied across the forecourt side, while the six court side flooring continues on track. The building is fully enclosed, with the majority of glazing installed internally, allowing glimpses of the final completed vision of the building. Externally, fine weather conditions have allowed the landscaping and civil works to progress quickly, with the first areas of planting completed around the building. Drainage, rain gardens and footpath installs continue, and roading asphalt is expected to begin in the next two weeks.

According to Christchurch Netball Centre (CNC) Board Chair Anna Galvan, each milestone reflects the commitment by construction and community partners to open the facility on time.

The Christchurch Netball Centre’s new indoor community sport venue at Ngā Puna Wai will bring together a wide range of sporting codes and activities to enjoy this all-weather, fit-for-purpose facility.

The project has been made possible by funding from an anonymous benefactor, motivated by the significant challenges for whānau across Ōtautahi Christchurch following the region’s earthquakes. It will become the South Island’s premier indoor community sport and recreation venue.

“As an organisation, the Christchurch Netball Centre is committed to the wellbeing of our communities," says Galvan. "We work closely with sporting and community partners, to find ways for our new space to welcome people of all ages from across Ōtautahi, to enjoy a wide range of sports and activities.”

The Christchurch Netball Centre has 5500 members, including administrators, officials and active volunteers representing all corners of the city.
