The Kaimai Ridgeway Trust Welcomes You to Te Rereatukahia Hut !

This hut is maintained by volunteers working for the Kaimai Ridgeway Trust.

This hut must be booked in advance using the DOC booking system - website link.

If you are camping at the hut, please consider donating $10 per adult, $5 per youth to Kaimai Ridgeway Trust via our bank account  BNZ 02 0192 0212664 000.

The hut fees and donations contribute to ongoing hut maintenance, the supply of firewood and other maintenance work on Kaimai backcountry tracks and huts.

The firewood supply has to be topped up by helicopter. This only occurs between April and October each year.

Current Work - Autumn 2026

1. The main window replacement work has been completed, with just a few finishing jobs being required.

2. Firewood has now been supplied for the winter - please use it prudently .... as per the signs in the hut, the rough cost estimate for each piece of firewood is $5 - wood purchase, bagging, and flying in to the hut

Track Access to/from the Hut

Sometimes alerts stay on the DOC website for too long - this is the current situation

1. North South Track

2. Old North South Track north from the hut to the Waipapa Track

3. Tuahu West Track from Wairakau Rd to the North South Track (hazard waring in bad weather conditions)

4. Tuahu East has a significant treefall near the Sentinel Rock track junction and some slips which should be traversed with care. DOC has this as closed at the moment, but you can use this track if you are experienced and careful

5. Access from the Wharawhara road end is now usable - we expect it to be formally reopened soon

6. Te Rereatukahia Hut Track from Hot Springs Rd end - this is closed for kauri protection reasons - from the east use the Tuahu East Track or the updated access from Wharawhara Rd

7. Not really relevant to this hut, but the DOC Kauritatahi Hut Track alert is wrong - the track is fully usable​​​​​​​

1. Email kaimairidgeway@gmail.com with any hut or local track issues requiring maintenance work. Photos also would be helpful

2. Keep the hut clean and tidy and take out all rubbish
