futureFerns Intermediates Year 7 & 8

(11-13 year olds)

Players have developed a considerable understanding of the game and are now playing 7 v 7. The emphasis is on converting fundamental movement and basic Netball skills to foundation Netball skills. Performance, challenge and playing are key motives for this age group. Positional rotation is encouraged and playing at least half a game will give each player the opportunity to participate and develop their skills.

2026 SEASON RULE INFORMATION - Quick Guide

UMPIRE RULES:

  • All Year 7 & 8 Grade Teams MUST supply their own Umpire for the Season. Payment of Umpires is between the Team and the Umpire.
  • KNC suggest paying Junior Umpires $10 per Game and Centre Qualified Umpires $20, as a guideline. Payment to Umpires MUST be made BEFORE the game starts.
  • All Umpires MUST wear a white t shirt or jumper.
  • All coaches & managers need to be up to date with all the updated 2024 umpires rules that where released last year.  Please check the UMPIRING TAB for helpful PDFs and videos which explain all the new rules that came into play.
  • Umpires MUST be registered with KNC.
  • If a team's umpire fails to show then their team must play with 6 players OR as a last resort the coach may umpire but is NOT allowed to coach during the game.
  • Control must be notified immediately if there is no umpire on any games.

TACTICAL CHANGE RULE :

  • Only the player ON COURT can call for the tactical change  - NOT the coach or manager or anyone on the sideline
  • Tactical changes can only be made after a goal is scored, the player must notify the umpire before the centre pass is taken
  • Each team is only allowed to make 4 x tactical changes per game
  • All tactical changes must be made quickly to avoid disruption to the game as all games at KNC are centrally timed so the ability to hold time is not available for games
  • No tactical changes can be made in the last TWO minutes of each quarter
  • Tactical change rule is not compulsory so if you prefer to make team changes at quarter time breaks that you have that option as well

    MALES IN NETBALL:

In Year 5 to Year 8 School / Club and any Mixed Competitions:

    • A maximum of 3 males may play on court at any one time.
    • There is to be no more than 1 male in each third of the court i.e. Goal third (GS/GA), Centre third (WA/C/WD) and Defence third (GD/GK)
