Club nights
Club nights are Wednesdays at Hutt Rec from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. Our first club night for the 2025/2026 season was on the 15th of October 2025.
Our club is solely power by volunteers - and so we encourage, and need, parents to participate on club nights – with over 100 children on the park there is certainly plenty to do! Tasks include managing the children, helping to run activities, measuring events, and generally making sure the athletes are in the right place.
How Club night works
Each child will be placed in a grade based on their age.
Grade 7 – 15
All children and parents are to meet at the back of the Hutt Old Boys Clubrooms by the LHAAC flag. Children are to line up behind their age group sign. Any notices will be advised by the club rep, and from there, each Age Group Helper will take their group to their initial event. Each age group will complete three events per night.
- Athletics NZ encourage the use of their Run Jump Throw programme for all athletes 7-12 - this is designed to teach children athletics skills as a means to improving performance. These skills will build foundations for sprints, longer distances, long jump, high jump, shot put and discus - as well as many other sports.
Under 7s
All children and parents are to meet at the back of the Hutt Old Boys Clubrooms by the LHAAC flag. Children are to line up behind their age group sign at 6.00pm. This U7 programme is for 4 to 6 year olds and runs for up to an hour. This programme is based on Athletics New Zealand's Get Set Go programme, focusing on developing coordination, movement and balance skills, in a fun environment.
Includes:
- Technique session for different events.
- Drills and practice sessions.
Club night cancellations
Club night cancellations will be displayed on our Facebook page, and will appear in the social media feed on our website.
We will endeavour to notify club night cancellations by 4pm on the day.
Communication
At the beginning of each club night our club secretary Bronwyn will update children and parents with any additional information they need to know. The club also has an INSTAGRAM and FACEBOOK page which is a great way to stay connected.
