The Summerset Women's Over 60s Triples got underway in ideal conditions with a slight breeze and light cloud which burnt off as the morning progressed. Doubtless those also due to play Pennants on Thursday will be wondering what happened.

Unfortunately, one team was unable to make it with two players ill, resulting in a Bye for Pool 1.  This left a field of 25 teams from as far afield as Paraparaumu Beach and Upper Hutt in the north to Miramar in the south with many in between. Thank you one and all for supporting our event and we trust you had a good day's bowls given the conditions.

As usual, the club members answered the call for bake sale and raffle items and Ngarie again made a wonderful Christmas cake for the raffles, your support is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Nine teams were unbeaten at the lunch break but how did they handle the transition between greens for the afternoon play? Three of them lost their first game after lunch and another two lost their last game to leave four 4 winners for the day. Two of these losses had to happen as the games were between previously unbeaten teams.

Ends won and points differential were used to finalise the placings with Island Bay's Barb Pilkington, Marlene Alberino Kay & Gill Oliver taking fourth place with 20E/+18 from Eileen Jones, Bernie Crowther & Carol Rolton of Paraparaumu Beach with 20E/+19 in third place. Clear in second with 22E/+22 and the third team from Pool 2 was Plimmerton's Cath Thomson, Phillipa Christie & Judy Cosgriff. But the only team from Pool 1 to feature in the major prizes with 23E/+23 taking out first place was Val Fitzmaurice, Carole Bartlett & Sheryl Young from Petone Central.

Lucky team went to Upper Hutt's Faye Powell, Margaret McKenzie & Julie Bold.

On hand to present the prizes was Shelley Gilliver from Summerset on the Landing, who we gratefully acknowledge as the sponsor of this event and one of the club's major sponsors,
