Team events

There are a number of team events where you may be able to represent Waikanae Pony Club at Branch, Horowhenua Pony Club, or Manawatu West Coast Area levels. 

Information and eligibility requirements for teams is provided for you to decide if you would like to be considered, if you are, let the head coach know in plenty of time. 

Games

  • Area Games (Mounted Games) – These are branch teams and pairs that compete in an Area (Manawatu West Coast) competition. HPC also put together a 10-and-under combined team. Team selection is based on enthusiasm and the ability to work as part of a team.

  • Zone Games – Branch teams are selected from the Area Games competition to compete at Zone level (Lower North Island).

  • Games Champs (every second year) – There is a Manawatu West Coast Area team selected from riders who took part in Zone Games.

Dressage

  • Area Dressage – This is a HPC team that competes in an Area (Manawatu West Coast) competition. All levels are catered for including lead rein.

  • Dressage Champs – This is a Manawatu West Coast Area team. The team is selected from results and a trial.

Eventing

  • Bruce Forbes Eventing Competition – This is a HPC team that competes in a Lower North Island event. Heights are 65cm, 80 cm and 95 cm. Selection is based on eventing results over three events. It is held in the Wairarapa area.

  • Timberlands Eventing Competition – This is a HPC team that competes in a North Island event and is at a slightly higher level than Bruce Forbes. It is held in Tokoroa. Selection is based on eventing results.

  • Eventing Champs – This is a Manawatu West Coast Area team. Heights start at 95 cm for 14 and under riders. The team selection is based on eventing results at selected trials.

Jumping

  • Show Hunter Champs – This is a HPC team and is held at Foxton. Category A starts at 60 – 65 cm and up to 90 cm for hacks. Team selection is based on Show Hunter results.

  • North Island Show Jumping Champs – This is a HPC team and is held in Cambridge. Heights start at 1 m. Team selection is based on show jumping results.

  • HOY Show Jumping Competition – This is a Manawatu West Coast Area team and is run at Horse of the Year Show. Heights start at 1.05 m for 16 and under riders. Team selection is based on show jumping results and a trial.

  • Interpacific Exchange – This is a NZPCA team for B level (or higher) riders aged 17 years or over and jumping up to 1.10 m on borrowed horses. It runs every other year and involves travelling to the host country. Area’s run trials to put forward candidates that NZPCA select from.

Eligibility

To be eligible for these teams, as well as sitting certificates, you must be a financial member and meet the NZPCA Working Rally Rule.

This means that:

  • If you have either no certificates, D, D+ or C Certificates you need to have attended 5 working rallies in the 12 months prior to the event entry date and 3 of these must be on the mount that you are riding in the event.

  • If you have your C+ Certificate you need to have attended 4 working rallies in the 12 months prior to the event entry date and 2 of these must be on the mount you are riding in the event.

  • If you have your B, H or A Certificate you need to have attended 3 working rallies in the 12 months prior to the event entry date and 1 of these must be on the mount you are riding in the event.

Dispensation is available for genuine cases. To apply for dispensation, please speak to the Head Coach of WPC.
