PARENTS AND SPECTATORS CODE OF CONDUCT

  • Support the removal of verbal and physical abuse from the game.  Refrain from any form of abuse, harassment, discrimination.
  • Teach your child that an honest effort is as important as victory, so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.
  • If children are interested, encourage and support them to play. Avoid forcing children to play if reluctant.
  • Children learn by taking risks and making mistakes, encourage and support this.
  • Remember children are involved in netball for their enjoyment not yours.
  • Applaud good play by players on both teams.  Children learn best by example.
  • Never ridicule or shout at a child for making a mistake or losing a game.
  • Recognise and value the importance of coaches/managers and other volunteers who give their time and resources to provide netball – they deserve your support.
  • Encourage children to play to the rules of the game and respect umpires’ decisions.
  • Respect the decisions of the coach. Discuss any concerns privately, away from the game, with coach, and/or manager.
  • If you have a concern regarding your child and you feel unable to discuss this with your coach or manager please approach the junior delegate and committee with your specific concerns in writing. The committee will acknowledge your concern within 1 week and respond to you in a timely matter.  NB: the committee usually meets monthly.  If of an urgent matter a special meeting will be held.
  • Avoid ‘coaching’ from the sideline. Leave the coaching to the coach.
  • If you disagree with an official, raise the issue via the appropriate channels rather than question the official’s judgment honesty in public.  Discuss with the coach/manager of the team and junior/senior delegate.
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of others.
  • Promote the interests of netball. !!
