Junior competition


Is Netball only for girls?
No. We welcome both boys and girls to play in the junior competition.


My child hasn't played netball before, can they still join?
Yes!  We welcome kids to join, even if they haven’t played before. It’s about giving it a go and having some fun whilst learning new skills.


When does the season start?

The season starts in Term 2, and typically runs from May – August with a break in the July school holidays.


Where do they play?
The junior teams play at Wellsford on Saturday mornings as a part of the Netball Rodney Centre competition.


Do you have teams for years 7-13?

​​​​​​​We don't currently offer teams for those in years 7-13 as this are provided through Mahurangi College. 


What does netball look like for years 1 & 2?
Players are put into teams, with a volunteer parent as a coach and manager. There are no set positions at this age and games are played 4 a side. The session is run with fun drills followed by a short game - all designed to give opportunities to participate and develop basic skills.


What does netball look like for years 3 & 4?
The game for years 3 & 4 is designed to be fun. The sessions are split between skill based drills followed by a game of 5 a side netball on two thirds of a court with shorter goals.


What does netball look like for years 5 & 6?
The game for Years 5 & 6 is designed to continue to develop their skills and be fun. The 6 a side game uses a full court. Year 6 players will also be introduced to the full 7v7 game towards the end of the season.
