Celebrating Language, Culture and Identity
At Ōtāhuhu Intermediate School, we proudly celebrate the different Language Weeks throughout the year. These special weeks give our students, staff and whānau the opportunity to recognise, learn about and celebrate the languages, cultures and identities that make up our kura.
Language Weeks are an important part of our school culture. They help students feel proud of who they are, where they come from, and the languages spoken in their homes and communities. They also give all students the chance to learn from one another and grow their understanding of the many cultures represented at Ōtāhuhu Intermediate.
Throughout the year, students take part in activities, learning experiences, performances, greetings, songs, stories, displays and celebrations connected to different languages and cultures.
These weeks help strengthen our sense of belonging and remind us that every culture, language and identity has value.
Bringing Culture to Life
During Language Weeks, our cultural groups often perform for the school. These performances are a highlight for our students and help bring language, music, dance and tradition to life.
Language Weeks support our school values of Respect, Personal Responsibility and Passion, while also connecting to our vision of Excellence for All — Kia Kounga te Katoa.
At Ōtāhuhu Intermediate, we are proud to be a kura where language, culture and identity are seen, heard and celebrated.
