Geraldine's Roger Glendinning and Jared Trevathan were all smiles on Sunday night as they did a Houdini act in the Semi Final of the Centre Pairs played at Kia Toa.

Glendinning came from 13 to 2 down to win the game against Temuka's Roger Jackson and Dave Wood 18 to 15.

In the other Semi Final Kia Toa's Noel Williams and Neville Herbert also had an interesting game against West End's Garry Ford and Scott Fisher as they raced away to a 9 nil lead, but then lost 16 shots over 7 ends to be down 16 to 9. They then scored 9 shots in last 3 ends to win 18 to 16.

In the final on the fifth end, Herbert held 2 great shots and Williams added, but Glendinning with his last bowl drew a blinder to lead 6 to 2. In the next end Herbert held 2 beauties and Williams added another as Glendinning was wayward on run shots to score 3 shots and level the scores 6 all. The 14th end was crucial with Glendinning leading 13 to 10. Herbert smothered the kitty with 3 great shots but Williams, with his last bowl accidentally trailed the kitty to go down 2. Glendinning added another to hold one hand on the Trophy, to lead 16 to 10.This was too much to claw back as Glendinning raced away with the game to win 19 to 11.

This combination has proven to be successful as the previous two years they have won the Champion of Champion Pairs.

Roger Glendinning has now won five South Canterbury titles and was awarded his gold Star. He praised the way Trevathan played throughout the competition and Trevathan has now won four South Canterbury titles.
