The South Canterbury Development bowls team have pulled off another sensational result in winning the Zone 6 Development tournament played on the Kia Toa green at the weekend, winning the Clutha-Oamaru Licensing Trust Trophy. Up against centres from North Otago, Dunedin, Central Otago, Southland, and South Otago the 10-man team spilt into disciplines playing  Singles, Pairs, Triples, and Fours.

The South Canterbury team were all class and to be fair they destroyed the opposition, winning the zone with ease.

Outstanding once again was the South Canterbury pair of Mike Crook and Aaron Taylor who have been unbeaten all year.  They were on fire, outclassing the opposition and giving South Canterbury an outstanding chance to win the Zone.

Dan Johnston, Jarod Barker, and Phill Quinn also had an unbeaten run winning all five games in the Triples.

The Singles player Nigel Mobberley just won one game on Saturday but fought back with an unbeaten run on Sunday.

The Fours of Alphy Trevathan, Gareth Burgess, Andrew Bell, and Jason Browning had a great day on Saturday, but just going down on Sunday.

The manager John Tyro was speechless with their performance at the prizegiving and said it was a shame they couldn't go and play other Zone winners for a chance to play for a New Zealand title, which had been held in the past (the John Flett Trophy).
