Geraldine's Ricky Ross, Dan Rooney, and Stu Blake won South Canterbury's Men's Champion of Champion Triples held at the West End green on Sunday, and will now represent South Canterbury in the National finals played in July.

In the final they played Waimate's Adrian Robins, Nic Scigggins, and Ron Law.

On the 6th end with scores tied at 4 all,  Ross's team held four great shots with Blake and Rooney outstanding with 4 shots on turnover and this remained the same as Robins missed with his two drives to lead  8 to 4.

Waimate smothered the kitty on the next two  ends to level the scores 8 all. The following end was a beauty with Stu Blake once again outplaying the lead with two great draw bowls. But Robins with his last bowl trailed the kitty 2 yards for 3 outstanding shots. Ross, not to wanting miss out on the action played a blinder and played the shot of the final, pushing Rooney's bowl in for shot to lead 9 to 8.

Both teams played great bowls over the next seven ends with all players changing head with outstanding bowls and with two ends to play the score was locked at 13 all.

On the 17th End Law played two classy shots but Rooney played a great bowl and trailed the kitty for one. Scriggins was unlucky with his bowl and Geraldine held the shot lead 17 to 16.

In the final end, once again Blake played the game of his life and held two great shots. Robins with last bowl just missed to give the Geraldine team victory.

The victory for the Geraldine team was a milestone for Rooney who now has 19 South Canterbury titles, Ricky Ross 9 titles,  and it was Stu Blake's first title. It was an outstanding play by Blake and he thoroughly  deserved to win his first title.

In speaking to Nigel Dewe (who was skip of the team who won the club title but was unavailable to play today and got Rooney in as substitute) was speechless with the win.

The Bowls South Canterbury  Women's Champion of Champion Triples were held at the West End green last Sunday, with men & women playing on the same green.

Teams had to play 18 ends and this was a knockout system.

In Rd 1: Karen Manning, Lorraine Tyro, and Maria Davey (Temuka)  played Sharon Fowler, Ruth Gould, and Jill Denton (Pleasant Point) and won 16-15:  Mata Frankum, Margaret Powell, and Penny Pulman (Waimate) played Jill Bennett, Julie McAuley and Anne Wooffendin (Kia Toa) and this was a win to Waimate at 18-14. Timaru and West End had the bye.

1st Semi-final:  Lyn Wilkie, Eileen Rabbidge, and Judy Boyle (Timaru) played  Bridget Kitching, Rana Crabtree, and Glenis McDonald (West End) and  Timaru had a tight game to win 19-14.

2nd Semi-final: Karen Manning played Mata Frankum and won 23-6.

The final was between Lyn Wilkie and Karen Manning. It was exciting as Lyn was 5 down on the last end and sent her bowl up and took the jack to hold the shot. Karen had a run shot and missed to give Timaru the win 18-13.

This gives Timaru Bowling Club two Champion of Champion titles (the Senior Singles and the Triples)  in two days, the third since 2012, when Timaru amalgamated with the former Aorangi Club.

West End was thanked for hosting as well as the controller.
